be yours. ♪ >>> we are back. the white house's website was created to provide an online platform for citizens to petition the obama administration to take action on issues that they find very important to themselves. the the site makes civic engagement easy and has sparked some interesting causes. and its policy of issuing a response if a petition gathering 25,000 signatures in 30 days has caught the attention of the internet trolls. it was the forum used by over 100,000 texans to secede from the united states, which resulted in another petition to withdraw. anything can happen. you can see where this is going. but there's one petition on the site that we here at "the ed show" can certainly get behind. it's a substantial stimulus project that would create millions of jobs, boost america's steel industry, got to love that, expand our space program, and basically guarantee our national security. what could be better? someone has petitioned the administration to build a death star. the fictional moon-size space base capable of destroying entire planets from "star wars." just under 2

a little more campaigning. president obama heads to northern virginia this afternoon. the white house says he will meet with a middle class family to press congress to protect those making less than $250,000 a year from tax increases and raise rates on those making more. house republicans return to their congressional districts. they will meet with small business owners to underscore how they say tax rate increases will hit those business, jon. jon: are they still hung up on taxes? is that the big sticking point? >> yes. taxes are the key to this debate. republicans say they will increase tax revenue through cutting tax deductions. democrats say tax rates have to increase for families earning more than $250,000 a year. they're demanding republicans pass their tax plan. >> neither president obama nor democrats in cop guess have ever been ambiguous about our proposal to provide economic security for 98% of the american families and 97% of the small businesses while asking the wealthiest 2% to contribute just a little more to stop this run away debt. >> what the president is really interested

and representative nancy pelosi have been excluded from talks leaving it to boehner and obama to make a deal. though boehner spokesman michael steele tells us this morning if we're going to solve this problem every congressional leader and more importantly the white house have all important roles to play. the fact is we've heard this same thing. and that is that pelosi and the senate leaders are not in the room at first. they'll be brought in when boehner and the white house are close. mann while, back to the debt ceiling. the new republicans' main point of leverage n. a rare misstep, mcconnell may have taken some of that leverage away in a move that ended with mcconnell filibustering himself. the president doesn't have enough democratic support, mcconnell moved to vote to permanently give the president the rate to approve the debt ceiling. reid shocked mcconnell by calling the idea of having that vote a positive development. forcing him to reject a vote he had called for himself. >> is there objection? >> reserving the right to object, matters of this controversy -- what we're talking about here is
